Swap

Swap in general means exchanging one asset or liability for a similar asset or liability in order to lengthen or shorten maturities, or to increase or decrease coupon rates, or to maximize revenue or minimize costs. In forex trading, for example, a currency swap may involve buying certain amount of euro (EUR) on the spot market and simultaneously selling the same amount of euro forward.
