Ponzi Scheme

Ponzi scheme refers to pyramid arrangements whereby a person or an enterprise makes payments to investors from the proceeds of a later investment rather than from actual profits, and leaves investors with the false impression that a legitimate profit-making business or investment opportunity exists. It is named after Charles Ponzi, who was notorious for such schemes in the early 20th century.
