Cable

The exchange rate between British pound and the US dollar (GBP/USD). This forex (FX) jargon is derived from the transatlantic cable, a steel cable laid under the Atlantic Ocean in 1858, which used to transmit messages with currency prices between Britain and the United States. Cable sometimes also refers to British pound.
